Kenya has ascended six positions in the worldwide passport ranking, securing the 67th position in 2024, compared to the 73rd place the previous year. The ranking, provided by the London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley and Partners, places Kenya and Malawi in the same position.
The report indicates that passport holders from both countries can currently travel to 76 nations visa-free. The Kenyan passport maintains its strength over those of neighboring countries, with Tanzania ranking 69th, Uganda at 73rd, and Rwanda at 76th place.
Six countries share the top spot for the most powerful travel documents in 2024: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain. Citizens of these nations enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 194 destinations worldwide, marking the highest number recorded since the inception of the Henley Passport Index 19 years ago.
Japan and Singapore have dominated the top position for the past five years, but the new top five sees a triumphant rise for European countries. Finland and Sweden, tied with South Korea, hold the second position with easy access to 193 destinations. Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands secure the third position with access to 192 destinations.
Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, and the United Kingdom claim the fourth spot, while Greece, Malta, and Switzerland take the fifth position. Australia and New Zealand have improved their rankings, now standing at sixth place alongside Czechia and Poland.
The United States and Canada are tied in seventh place with Hungary, offering visa-free access to 188 destinations.”
