Motorists travelling along Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway have been advised to prepare for traffic disruptions this weekend following the announcement of a temporary road closure by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
In a public notice, KeNHA said part of the Mombasa-bound section of Mombasa Road (A8), as well as both directions of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors, will be closed for 24 hours starting from 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, until 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.

According to the authority, the closure will allow for the installation of fabricated beams for the Airtel Footbridge, a key component of efforts aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety along the busy transport corridor.
KeNHA noted that the works are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements designed to provide safer crossing points for pedestrians and reduce accidents in the area.
The roads agency has urged drivers to adhere to the temporary traffic management arrangements that will be put in place during the construction period. Motorists have also been asked to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to guide traffic and manage diversions.

Road users are encouraged to plan their trips in advance and expect delays as vehicles are redirected through alternative routes while the installation works are underway.

Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway are among Kenya’s busiest transport routes, serving thousands of commuters daily. The corridor connects Nairobi’s central business district, the industrial area, residential estates, and the airport, making it a critical link for both passenger and commercial traffic.
KeNHA, a state corporation operating under the Ministry of Roads and Transport, is mandated to oversee the development, maintenance and management of Kenya’s national trunk road network. The agency is also responsible for ensuring road safety, protecting road reserves and implementing major infrastructure projects that support the country’s long-term development agenda.
