The suspect, identified as Isaac Kuria, also known as “Kush,” is believed to have been the triggerman in the brazen daylight shooting that claimed the MP’s life along Nairobi’s Valley Road. According to investigative sources, Kuria had been on the run since the attack and was captured after a cross-county manhunt.
Authorities say Kuria, who has suspected ties to criminal elements in Nairobi, was specifically dispatched to carry out the assassination. He is thought to have shadowed the MP’s movements before opening fire while the legislator was stuck in traffic.
After the incident, Kuria reportedly escaped to Mihango, where he allegedly disposed of the firearm used in the shooting. The weapon has since been recovered by detectives. From Mihango, he made his way to Narok by motorcycle, then boarded a public vehicle to Isebania, where he was reportedly coordinating a cross-border escape with a relative in Tanzania.
Detectives, who had been monitoring communications between Kuria and several suspects already in custody, tracked him down and arrested him at a local lodging. Another individual found with him was also taken into custody.
Both suspects were transported to Nairobi and are scheduled to appear in court at JKIA Law Courts on Monday.
Kuria’s arrest raises the number of suspects in custody to 11. Among those previously detained are the MP’s bodyguard Allan Omondi, his driver Walter Owino, and William Imoli, believed to be a key planner and financier of the killing.
Others implicated include businessman-politician Phillip Aroko and Ebel Ochieng, a director at the Lake Basin Development Authority—both suspected of funding the operation—as well as Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that the hunt for more individuals linked to the murder is ongoing. Investigators are also examining financial transactions tied to the suspects in hopes of uncovering the motive behind the assassination.
The murder of MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, viewed as a calculated political hit, remains under intense investigation as authorities close in on the wider conspiracy.
