TIBS College Engineering Students Gain Firsthand Experience at KenGen

A group of Electrical and Electronics Engineering students from TIBS College recently took part in an eye-opening academic trip to the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), gaining practical insights into the country’s energy production and power systems.

The trip, organized by the college’s engineering department, aimed to complement classroom theory with hands-on experience in a real-world industrial environment.

Students toured KenGen’s major facilities and were introduced to modern energy technologies currently shaping Kenya’s electricity landscape.

“This academic visit was a critical learning moment for our students,” said a faculty member accompanying the group. “It offered them a unique chance to engage directly with the systems and professionals responsible for powering Kenya.”

During the tour, the students observed key processes in power generation, from hydroelectric turbines to geothermal energy operations.

KenGen engineers provided detailed briefings and answered questions, helping the future engineers understand the operational challenges and innovations driving sustainable energy in the region.
