Karua and Gachagua Hold Closed-Door Meeting in Kirinyaga

Martha Karua, leader of the Narc Kenya party, hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at her home in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.

The meeting, which took place on Saturday, was attended by Gachagua and his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, along with several Members of Parliament, including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Jane Kihara (Naivasha), Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), and James Gakuya (Embakasi North). Kirinyaga Jubilee Party Chairman Mureithi Kang’ara was also present.

The two leaders held a private discussion, though no details about the meeting’s agenda were revealed. This gathering could potentially indicate the start of a new political alliance, particularly since Gachagua has announced plans to create a new political party after leaving the ruling UDA.

The talks occurred shortly after the Registrar of Political Parties officially removed Gachagua as Deputy Party Leader of UDA, following his impeachment in October 2024.

In December 2024, Karua suggested the possibility of working with Gachagua, despite their differing political views. She clarified that, although they had not spoken directly, she did not see him as an enemy. She also expressed openness to future discussions, emphasizing that their shared goal was to challenge the current administration led by William Ruto.

Gachagua, who was a prominent figure in the 2022 elections, has been touring the Mt Kenya region in an effort to unite its leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

Following his impeachment, he has hinted at establishing a new political movement, though it remains uncertain whether he will create a new party or take over an existing one.
