Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has confirmed that construction of Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County, the designated venue for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, is nearing completion.
Speaking during an inspection tour on Friday, Omollo reported that works at the 10,000-capacity facility are 80 percent complete, with the remaining tasks mainly focused on roofing.

He assured that security and logistical plans are well underway to ensure smooth movement of guests and dignitaries during the October 20 national holiday. The PS was accompanied by County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, security teams, and NGAO officers during the tour.
Beyond the stadium, Omollo highlighted ongoing infrastructural improvements in Kitui town. He revealed that KURA and KeRRA are finalizing over 10 kilometers of access roads linking the stadium to the State Lodge, where President William Ruto will host a luncheon after the celebrations.

The PS emphasized that holding national events in different counties leaves behind lasting benefits. He noted that investments in stadiums, roads, water, and electricity not only support sports development but also boost local economies and improve livelihoods.
