The department advised the public to follow official weather updates and take precautionary measures to reduce the risks associated with flooding and related hazards.

Several regions have experienced ongoing rains in recent days. On Monday, Kenya Met warned that rainfall would continue from 9:00 a.m. Sunday, December 28, to 9:00 a.m. Monday, December 29.

Areas affected include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley—Nairobi included—the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands, and the Coastal region. Residents in these areas were cautioned to remain vigilant due to the heightened flood risk.

Kenya Met continues to encourage the public to rely on its official communication channels for timely advisories as the rainy conditions persist.

Meanwhile, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Sunday issued a safety alert urging motorists and other road users to exercise extra caution as heavy rains and fog affect parts of the country.

NTSA warned that reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces have significantly increased the risk of accidents on major highways. Road users were advised to slow down, keep safe distances, avoid overtaking in poor visibility, and be cautious around flooded sections, particularly on low-lying roads.

The advisory followed a Kenya Met forecast indicating moderate to heavy rainfall exceeding 20–30mm in regions such as the southeastern lowlands, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Coast.

According to the department, the rains are expected to intensify in several counties through December 29 before easing on December 30. Areas of concern include Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho, Bomet, southern Kitui, Taita-Taveta, and Kwale.
