Former Shinyalu MP Daniel Khamasi Passes Away

Former Shinyalu Member of Parliament Daniel Khamasi has died at the age of 79.

His nephew, Hillary Amboso, confirmed that Khamasi passed away at around 4 a.m. while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi. He said the former legislator had been battling diabetes and hypertension.

Khamasi first entered Parliament in 1997 after winning the Shinyalu seat on a Ford–Kenya ticket and later secured a second term in 2002 under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) during the reform-era elections.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa expressed condolences following the death, describing Khamasi as a committed leader whose legacy in Shinyalu would endure.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Governor Barasa said the late former MP was a devoted public servant whose contributions to the development of Shinyalu Constituency would be remembered for years to come.

He extended his sympathies to Khamasi’s family, friends and the residents of Shinyalu, noting that Kakamega County had lost a respected and dedicated leader.

During his time in Parliament, Khamasi was known for championing issues affecting his constituents and for his dedication to public service.
