Former Radio Africa journalist Rose Mbugua will be laid to rest today at her family’s home in Limuru, a week after she lost her life in a tragic road accident in Nairobi.
Relatives, friends, colleagues and members of Kenya’s media fraternity are expected to attend the burial to pay their final respects to the 24-year-old journalist, who died on July 17.

According to the funeral programme, mourners will begin arriving at the family home from 8 a.m., followed by prayers and a body viewing at 9 a.m. The cortege is scheduled to leave at 9:30 a.m. for the burial site, with arrival expected at around 10:30 a.m.
A church service will be held at noon before the final burial ceremony, where family and loved ones will bid her farewell.
Rose died following a road accident on Uhuru Highway near the University of Nairobi roundabout, an incident that deeply affected Kenya’s journalism community.

Rose began her journalism career in early 2025 as an intern at Blue Radio Kenya in Mombasa. During her three-month internship, she earned recognition for her professionalism, creativity and commitment to her work.
Her performance later earned her a position at Radio Africa Group, where she further developed her skills in journalism, digital media and video editing.
She also contributed to The Star, producing digital health stories that attracted a growing online readership.
Those who worked with her describe her as a dedicated and innovative journalist who approached every assignment with professionalism and a strong commitment to informing the public.
Beyond her career, Rose is being remembered for her humility, kindness and determination, qualities that endeared her to colleagues, friends and family.
