Extreme Heat Kills More than 50 People in India in Three Days

More than 50 people have died in India in the past three days as extreme heat continues to hit parts of the country.

At least 33 people died in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh over the weekend due to the heat.

In the state of Odisha (Orissa), about 20 people died due to the severe heat wave, an official told news agency ANI.

Most of these deaths were reported on June 1 when India voted in the final round of voting for its general election.

The results of the election are scheduled to be announced on June 4.

Every five years, India holds its general elections in the summer months of April and May.

But this year, the temperature has been breaking records, with the country experiencing more frequent, more intense and longer heat waves.

The central government’s health ministry says there have been 56 confirmed heat wave deaths from 1 March to 30 May. About 24,849 cases of heat waves were reported during that period.
