Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Etago confirmed that the body had been delivered to the mortuary on June 13 at around 7:30 pm by an unidentified man driving a white Toyota Probox.
Mortuary staff said the man claimed he had forgotten his identification documents and Occurrence Book (OB) reference number in his vehicle. He reportedly left to retrieve them but never returned, and the vehicle’s registration details were not recorded.
A police inspection revealed visible head injuries, blood clots, and bruises on the back and thighs consistent with assault.
A post-mortem examination concluded that Lenah died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Detectives have now classified the case as murder and are working to identify and trace the man who abandoned the body at the mortuary. Security footage from the area is being reviewed to aid investigations.
In a separate incident in Nairobi’s Kasarani sub-county, police arrested a suspect after a man who had been receiving treatment for injuries from a previous assault died in hospital.
The incident was reported on June 17 by the deceased’s brother, who confirmed that Joseph Ndungu had succumbed to injuries at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
Police said the initial assault had been reported on June 11, and investigations were already underway at the time of his death.
One suspect is currently in custody pending further investigations and possible arraignment.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination as detectives continue probing the murder.
Authorities note that murder cases have been on the rise, with police reportedly handling several incidents daily, many of which remain unsolved.
