“The unidentified body has been taken to the City Mortuary,” Lobolia said.
Lobolia spoke to a local media by phone shortly after the body was removed from the scene.
According to multiple sources, the body was found around 2:30 p.m., causing a traffic jam along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway as motorists stopped to observe the scene and join others who had gathered.
It is unclear who first discovered the body and alerted others, as the riverbed, located several meters from the highway, was not immediately noticed by the general public.
A photo obtained by a local media showed the deceased lying on his back, one of his legs tied with a cloth before it was removed from the site. The man was bare-chested, wearing only long trousers, and had marks on his neck and leg.
Witnesses suggested that he might have been killed elsewhere and then dumped at the riverbed.
