The Ministry of Health in Tanzania has said that drugs to treat severe forms of HIV are not being sold and that there are enough of them.
The move comes after reports in the media and online described a shortage of medicines, forcing consumers to buy them.
‘Users of these drugs have no reason to worry about the availability of these drugs,’ a statement from the Ministry of Health said.
The ministry has urged citizens to ignore the information and continue to use it correctly.
Recently, US President Donald Trump issued an order to halt the distribution of HIV, TB and Malaria drugs, a move that has caused a stir in Africa.
On Tuesday, contractors and partners working with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Tanzania and Kenya began receiving the letters to immediately halt funding, according to sources.
