Kalonzo Supports Public Inquiry Into Abductions

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has supported calls for the creation of a Public Commission of Inquiry to investigate the underlying causes of the recent wave of abductions.

Speaking at the City Mortuary after two of four individuals who went missing in Mlolongo were identified, Kalonzo emphasized that the establishment of such a Commission cannot proceed without the participation of the opposition and other relevant stakeholders.

“It won’t be a commission set up solely by William Ruto. It must include the opposition, and if they’re not willing, we’ll hold our own sessions and determine whether to create our own inquiry. These killings cannot be ignored; the country cannot afford to pay such a heavy price,” Kalonzo stated.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi had previously proposed the idea of the Commission on January 31, warning that the rising number of abductions could lead the country into chaos and anarchy.

Muturi urged President William Ruto not to overlook the issue, pointing out that the surge in abductions and extrajudicial killings is alarming and must be addressed immediately. “Mr. President, I urge you to stop these abductions and extrajudicial killings, as you promised, and launch a transparent inquiry into their occurrence,” said Muturi, a former Speaker and Attorney General.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula called on the police to investigate the situation. He urged security agencies to identify those responsible for these crimes, which have been linked to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Wetang’ula compared the current situation to past incidents where the bodies of missing persons were found dumped in rivers and remote areas, specifically referencing the River Yala incidents that caused national outrage. “We dread a return to a time when bodies were discovered in places like River Yala. This is not the Kenya we want,” he said.

His comments come amid increasing concerns among residents, who have witnessed a rise in disappearances in their communities. On January 30, two of the three men from Mlolongo, who were abducted in December, were found dead at the City Mortuary.
