Following the court’s decision to find Jowie Irungu guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, there were diverse reactions among Kenyans.
Additionally, the court revoked Jowie’s bond after his conviction, with Justice Grace Nzioka announcing that he would remain in custody until March 8, 2024.
Upon hearing the judge’s ruling to cancel his bond, Jowie appeared visibly emotional, as he looked down and attempted to hold back tears.
In an interview with Tuko, the timing of which is unspecified, Jowie addressed the possibility of returning to prison, reflecting on life and the prospect of serving another sentence.
When questioned if he feared the possibility of going back to jail, Jowie responded with laughter before asserting, “Because of what? You want to take me back?” He shook his head as he spoke.
He then expressed a profound outlook on life, stating, “Why should I be afraid? If it’s for the glory of God, let it be.”
Jowie emphasized his compassion for all individuals, even the most troubled, stating, “Even the worst person on this earth, I would not want them to spend a day there.”
Further elaborating on his perspective, Jowie urged empathy and hope for those incarcerated, remarking, “The people in prison, pray for them. Even as you go to visit them, don’t go with sympathy or pity because those people are the most hopeful in the world.”
