Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned allies of President William Ruto against attempts to persuade Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join the government’s political camp ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a church service at PCEA Kamangu Parish in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, Gachagua told government leaders seeking Kalonzo’s support to approach him first, jokingly describing himself as the Wiper leader’s family spokesperson.
“If you need Kalonzo, come see me,” Gachagua told the congregation, drawing cheers from those present.

The former Deputy President dismissed efforts by Ruto’s allies to reach out to Kalonzo, maintaining that the opposition leader was committed to working with him and other opposition figures in a wider political push to change the country’s leadership.
Gachagua said his two years of working closely with Kalonzo had convinced him that the Wiper leader was dependable and would not abandon the opposition.
“This Kalonzo Musyoka you are playing with, he is not the one you are used to. I stayed with him for two years. This is a reliable leader, and he cannot betray the people of Kenya,” he said.
He further suggested that Kalonzo would not consider joining Ruto’s political camp, asking the congregation whether the Wiper leader’s family would support such a move. The audience responded negatively.
“Please stop disturbing Kalonzo Musyoka,” Gachagua added, insisting that the two leaders were working together towards what he described as the country’s liberation.
The remarks come as political players intensify consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. President Ruto’s allies are seeking to strengthen the ruling camp, while opposition leaders continue exploring possible partnerships and a joint political strategy.
During the church gathering, Gachagua also criticised Ruto’s administration, accusing it of interfering in church affairs and targeting the Mount Kenya region.
He additionally dismissed suggestions that he needed to reconcile with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming the two were already working together.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta and I, we are one team, we work together,” he said.
