A well-known religious figure in the Adamo area of Lagos State, Nigeria, was captured by residents with a human skull in his possession and subsequently handed over to the police.
The individual, identified as Babalola, is reported to be an Imam in the locality. He was apprehended along with four other accomplices, according to the official police report.
The Punch newspaper highlighted that the suspect was discovered with a human skull and additional body parts enclosed in a polythene bag in Lagos.
In response to the incident, Lagos Police Commander Benjamin Hundeyin released a statement on his X account, assuring residents that investigations were underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
“We commend the good people of Ikorodu for doing the right thing and not yielding to jungle justice. We will ensure justice is done,” noted Hundeyin on X.
The police commander was responding to a post on X from a resident who shared information about the arrest of the religious leader.
“Residents of Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State have handed over a popular Chief Imam, Babalola, and four of his associates to the police after they were allegedly caught with a human skull and other parts of a human body,” posted @DejiAdesogan on X.
A separate resident named Ayo informed The Punch that the Imam was apprehended on Thursday, January 18.
“The Chief Imam of Adamo Central Mosque was caught alongside others in the Adamo area of Ikorodu. They’ve been taken to the anti-kidnapping and cultists police unit at Araro, Adamo,” Ayo stated.
