Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza rallies support for ex-Woman Rep WanguI Ngirici/FB

Kawira: Ngirici Is Kirinyaga’s Next Governor

Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has publicly backed former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici for the Kirinyaga governor seat in the 2027 General Election.

Mwangaza announced her support during a political rally in Kirinyaga County, where the two leaders appeared together at a mobilisation event attended by supporters from across the region. Their joint appearance highlighted what they described as a common political agenda ahead of the upcoming elections.

Addressing residents, Mwangaza encouraged Ngirici not to struggle in seeking endorsement from major political parties, saying she already had a political vehicle available through her own party.

She revealed that she was ready to hand Ngirici a direct ticket through the Umoja na Maendeleo Party, which she leads.

“We have come from Meru to tell Ngirici not to worry about looking for a party. We have Umoja na Maendeleo Party, and I am its leader. Other parties may disappoint you, but we will not. I want to support her because she has stood with the people. Her ticket is direct,” Mwangaza said.

She also reflected on their political history, noting that they served together during the 12th Parliament and both pursued gubernatorial ambitions at different times.

Speaking partly in a local dialect, Mwangaza said their shared experiences in politics had strengthened her belief in Ngirici’s leadership qualities and her chances of mounting a strong gubernatorial campaign.

“I served with Wangui in the 12th Parliament. I came first, and she came second. We encouraged each other to run for governor. I went back to Meru and won,” she stated.

Mwangaza further claimed that betrayal later affected her political journey and vowed to confront what she described as political disloyalty in the region.

Addressing supporters, Ngirici echoed the tough political message, declaring, “In 2027, we will sweep away all betrayers.”

Mwangaza also urged Kirinyaga residents to turn out in large numbers during the 2027 elections.

After the rally, she shared a message on social media endorsing Ngirici’s candidacy, writing, “Wangui Ngirici for Governor 2027,” while also thanking Ngariama residents for warmly receiving them.

Ngirici contested the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race in 2022 as an independent candidate after leaving UDA but lost narrowly to incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru.
