Outsourcing company Sama has announced plans to lay off 1,108 employees at its Nairobi office following the termination of a major contract by Meta Platforms.
In a redundancy notice dated April 16, the firm said the job cuts come after Meta formally ended a key engagement that had been supporting a large part of Sama’s Nairobi operations.

The company said it attempted to persuade the client to retain the workstream, but the efforts were unsuccessful, leading to the issuance of redundancy notices in line with Section 40 of the Employment Act, 2007.
Sama noted that most of the affected workers were attached to the specific programme that has now been discontinued.
In its statement, the firm expressed concern over the impact on employees, saying it is offering support measures to those affected.
Sama Country Lead and Vice President for Global Delivery Annepeace Alwala said changes in client programmes are common in the outsourcing industry and often lead to operational adjustments.
She added that the company works closely with partners to manage such transitions responsibly, as it adapts to evolving client needs.
