Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has failed to secure a spot among Africa’s top 10 airports in the latest rankings released by Skytrax.
Meanwhile, regional competitors stood out, with Kigali International Airport ranked 8th and Bole International Airport taking the 9th position on the continent.

South Africa dominated the top tier, with Cape Town International Airport named the best in Africa, followed by O.R. Tambo International Airport in second place and King Shaka International Airport in third.
In North Africa, Marrakech Menara Airport and Mohammed V International Airport secured fourth and fifth positions respectively, while Cairo International Airport came in sixth.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport ranked seventh, with Ivato International Airport completing the top 10 list.
Globally, Singapore Changi Airport was crowned Airport of the Year 2026 during the World Airport Awards held in London on March 18, 2026.

The World Airport Awards, organized by Skytrax, are widely regarded as among the most prestigious honors in the aviation sector. They are based on the world’s largest annual airport customer satisfaction survey, gathering feedback from travelers of over 100 nationalities between August 2025 and February 2026.

More than 575 airports worldwide were evaluated, focusing on service consistency and overall passenger experience. Key areas assessed included check-in processes, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration procedures, as well as departure services.
According to the rankings, the world’s top 20 airports in 2026 are led by Singapore Changi, followed by Incheon International Airport, Tokyo Haneda Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Narita International Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Rome Fiumicino, Istanbul Airport, Munich Airport, and Vancouver International Airport, among others.
