Wiper Denies Involvement in Rumours About Raila Odinga’s Health

The Wiper Democratic Movement has come to the defense of its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, rejecting allegations that tie him to false claims about Raila Odinga’s health.

This comes after a statement from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which dismissed the health rumours and hinted that certain political figures were behind the spread of misinformation.

In a press release issued on Sunday, Wiper Secretary-General Senator Shakila Abdalla criticized ODM’s remarks, accusing the party of unfairly targeting Kalonzo.

“To be clear, Kalonzo Musyoka holds no ill will toward Raila Odinga. Any insinuation that he does is both false and misleading,” Abdalla said.

She argued that ODM was using the issue to deflect from its own internal problems and insisted that Wiper had no involvement in discussions about Odinga’s health.

“Dragging Kalonzo into ODM’s internal issues is baseless and unwarranted,” she added.

Abdalla also denied that Kalonzo had anything to do with the failure of Odinga’s African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid, pointing to wider diplomatic and strategic issues that were beyond Kalonzo’s influence.

“Kalonzo Musyoka had no role in the AUC outcome. Its result was shaped by factors far outside his control,” she said.

She reaffirmed Kalonzo’s commitment to justice and transparency, saying he would not be distracted by political theatrics.

Her comments followed a statement from ODM, via Raila Odinga’s Secretariat, which dismissed the health claims as false and accused unnamed political players of leading a smear campaign.

Raila’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, claimed the campaign was being driven by those who had previously opposed Odinga’s AUC candidacy and were now using his name to further their rivalry with President William Ruto.

Onyango emphasized that Odinga has always been open about his health and cited previous occasions when he made his medical status public.

“He openly disclosed his medical procedures in 2010 as Prime Minister and again in 2021 when he was diagnosed with Covid-19,” Onyango said. “He would do the same now if there were any truth to these rumours.”

He also clarified that Raila is in good health and that contrary to online speculation, he left the country on Friday for a routine trip—not to Europe as some claimed.
