Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed that Munuve suffered a pulmonary embolism—a condition in which a blood clot obstructs a major artery in the lungs. The clot is believed to have originated in the popliteal vein of his left leg before traveling to the lungs and blocking the pulmonary artery, leading to a sudden drop in oxygen levels in his body.
Dr. Oduor noted that during the external examination, signs of oxygen deprivation such as cyanosis (discoloration of the lips and fingernails) were observed.
He explained that the blockage in the pulmonary artery significantly impaired oxygen flow, ultimately resulting in Munuve’s death.
A deeper investigation during the autopsy traced the source of the clot to the lower limb. Additional samples were collected for toxicological analysis.
The postmortem was carried out by a team of seven pathologists and drew attention from political figures, medical experts, and investigative authorities.
According to lawyer Danstan Omari, each of these parties had representatives present during the examination.
