The victims—a boda boda rider and his passenger—were reportedly heading home from Runyenjes when they were hit by the speeding vehicle. The collision left both with multiple fractures and severe injuries.
Emergency teams from Hunter Medical Centre quickly responded. The rider, who was critically injured, was transferred to Embu Level 5 Hospital, while the passenger was admitted to Hunter Medical Centre for treatment.
Eyewitnesses and local residents condemned the reckless behavior often exhibited by miraa transport drivers, with many calling for a complete ban on miraa transportation due to the increasing number of accidents attributed to the high-speed pickups.

“The green gold seems to be valued more than human life,” one resident lamented, urging the government to take regulatory action. The incident occurred just two days after another fatal crash at Jukwaa in Kathageri, where two brothers died after being hit by a miraa vehicle.

Following the latest crash, tensions flared when enraged boda boda riders threw stones at a miraa lorry in protest. The driver fled to Runyenjes Police Station, where he reported the incident before continuing his journey.
Residents have pledged to hold demonstrations to demand justice for victims and push for stricter enforcement against miraa drivers, whom they accuse of operating with impunity on the busy highway.
