Three bar managers in Belgium are among five men who have been arrested in connection with an investigation into acts of rape and sexual assault against dozens of women, local police have said.
Prosecutors said the suspects were linked to the drinking of 41 female victims from December 2021 to December 2024.
The three suspects ran a business in the northwestern city of Kortrijk where the acts of spiking drinks took place. Investigators say they believe they discussed the attacks.
The public prosecutor’s office said a total of five men were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday.
The two arrested men appeared before a judge on Thursday, prosecutors said.
Two other men are still being questioned by detectives while a fifth man was released after questioning.
The men are suspected of rape, sexual assault and illegal administration of harmful substances, the prosecutor’s office said.
Officials believe drugs were laced into the women’s drinks, including ketamine, a recreational anesthetic used for its hallucinogenic effects.
