A 23-year-old man from Orongo village, on the outskirts of Kisumu city, was fatally injured over the weekend in a confrontation related to a wheelbarrow.
According to the victim’s father, the young man had previously worked for a local contractor and left his wheelbarrow on the job site after not being paid. When the contractor noticed the wheelbarrow was missing, he reportedly went after the victim armed with a weapon.
The father, Nicanor Oruko, told police that a confrontation ensued, during which the contractor struck his son in the head. The suspect then fled the scene as bystanders rushed the victim to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are currently searching for the contractor, and the deceased’s family is calling for justice. Police have moved the body to the mortuary and are continuing their investigation.
