Thirteen people lost their lives on Sunday afternoon in a tragic road accident near Kikopey, Gilgil, along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway.
According to Nakuru County Police Commander Emmanuel Opuru, the victims were in a 14-seater matatu headed to Nakuru when it collided head-on with a semi-trailer.

“The matatu was overtaking when it hit the trailer, leaving 13 dead and three others critically injured,” Opuru confirmed.
Among the injured were two children, who, together with another passenger, were rushed to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased were also taken.
Preliminary findings suggest the passengers had hired the vehicle in Nairobi to attend a family function. The crash also triggered a major traffic snarl-up on the busy highway.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident.
