Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has appealed to the Luo community to back Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in his 2027 presidential campaign.

Ndeti emphasized that the Kamba community has long supported ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambitions and now it is time for Raila’s home base to return the favor by backing Kalonzo in 2027.
“As the Kamba community, we have supported Baba (Raila) for 15 years, and during that time, Raila earned many votes, even winning constituencies here in Luo Nyanza. I can provide you with the figures, as I have them,” Ndeti remarked.
She made the comments while speaking to mourners at a funeral ceremony in Ng’iya, Alego, Siaya County on Saturday.
The Machakos Governor was hosted by Siaya Governor James Orengo, a long-time political ally and confidant of Raila.
Ndeti added, “I want to tell you that Kalonzo Musyoka has decided to run for president. Now, you are our friends, so come and join us. We’ve sacrificed for 15 years. When I was campaigning for Raila, I was young, now I’m a grown woman.”
“We kindly ask that you stand with us, for Kalonzo, because we have been loyal to you, and it’s only fair that you return the favor.”
In a quick response, Orengo suggested that Kenyans should focus on addressing constitutional, structural, and electoral challenges.
“Wavinya, you’ve spoken well, and Kalonzo is my friend, but for now, let’s pause and rethink this. We need to find solutions because even where Kalonzo is campaigning, Kioni says he wants to back Matiang’i, and Wamalwa also has his own aspirations,” Orengo said.
“So, within that group, there is division. Leave Raila out of it; he is leading a national movement. But if we don’t solve our issues, including constitutional and electoral challenges, we will continue facing problems,” Orengo added.
Jimi Wanjigi, leader of the Safina Party and former presidential candidate in 2022, also emphasized that political unity should not be driven by tribalism.
“We have no problem uniting with anyone, but it must be based on addressing the issues affecting the public, not on tribalism. Tribal inclusion is a thing of the past,” Wanjigi stated.
“We must unite on the critical issues troubling the nation, such as the tough economic times we are facing.”
