US and Iran Agree to Two-Week Ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has said he has agreed to a two-week pause in attacks on Iran, following a proposal by mediators in the conflict.

Trump said the decision was reached after talks with Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who requested more time for diplomatic efforts.

In his message, Trump said the move was linked to the safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil trade.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Iran is ready to cease hostilities if attacks against the country are stopped, signaling a conditional agreement between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has said the ceasefire has come into effect immediately, a move seen as an opportunity for all sides to de-escalate tensions.

Trump also said the United States had received proposals on 10 issues from Iran, describing them as a basis that could be worked out through negotiations, while explaining that many of the differences that had already existed had been narrowed.

The war between the United States, Israel and Iran began on February 28 and has affected international markets, especially oil prices.
