Tottenham Defeats Man Utd 1-0 in Premier League Clash

Tottenham triumphed 1-0 over Manchester United on Sunday, claiming victory in a clash between two struggling Premier League teams.

James Maddison scored the only goal in the 13th minute, helping Spurs climb above United into 12th place, with their third win over the Red Devils this season.

This result eased the pressure on Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, whose team had already been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions this month, adding to their poor league form.

Meanwhile, United dropped to 15th in the standings, though they still have a 12-point gap over the relegation zone.

Tottenham’s first home league win since November came amid growing discontent from their supporters, who again expressed frustration toward the club’s owners, ENIC, and chairman Daniel Levy. A banner reading “24 years, 16 managers, 1 trophy – Time for change” was displayed, and many fans participated in protests calling for Levy’s departure.

However, Postecoglou’s mood improved before the match, as he welcomed back several key players from injury. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made his first appearance since November, and Maddison was back in the starting lineup, while Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, and Wilson Odobert were among the substitutes.

United faced their own injury challenges, with Amad Diallo joining Lisandro Martinez on the sidelines for the season and Kobbie Mainoo out for a month. Manager Ruben Amorim had to name eight teenagers on his bench, and with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee starting upfront, United struggled to break through.

Hojlund had a chance early on but fired too close to Vicario, who then made a save to deny Alejandro Garnacho. Spurs took the lead when United goalkeeper Andre Onana could only parry a shot from Lucas Bergvall into Maddison’s path, and the midfielder scored his 10th goal of the season into an empty net.

United had opportunities to equalize before halftime, with Garnacho missing a golden chance when he fired over the bar after being set up by Bruno Fernandes. Vicario continued to frustrate the United attack, making another key save after the break.

Zirkzee also missed a great opportunity to equalize, heading a cross from Noussair Mazraoui wide with the goal at his mercy. United’s inability to score came as little surprise, as only the bottom three and Everton have netted fewer goals than United’s 28 in 25 league games this season.

At the other end, Onana kept United in the game with a crucial save against Dejan Kulusevski’s powerful shot. Despite Tottenham’s makeshift defense, they held on, securing a vital win and lifting Postecoglou’s spirits.
