The officers, based at the GSU Fafi Operations Camp, were heading out in a water bowser to fetch water when the vehicle ran over a roadside explosive that had been buried beneath the ground.
The device detonated upon impact, causing extensive damage to the engine section of the bowser and injuring three officers who were on board.
Police stated that the team was being escorted by Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle 5170, which swiftly secured the scene and coordinated rescue efforts.
The injured officers were taken to a nearby dispensary for initial treatment and stabilisation before arrangements were made to airlift them to Nairobi for specialised care.

Security agencies have since intensified operations in the area as investigations continue. The region, located near the Kenya-Somalia border, has long been considered vulnerable to infiltration by terror groups due to the porous boundary.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding residents, noting that the area remains under a multi-agency security operation aimed at rooting out militants. Authorities say these efforts have previously contributed to a decline in such incidents, even as the region continues to experience sporadic terror-related attacks.
