President Ruto Congratulates UDA Winners After By-Election Sweep

President William Ruto has praised United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates for their clean sweep in Thursday’s by-elections, thanking voters across Isiolo South Constituency, West Kabras, Muminji, and Evurore wards for supporting the ruling party.

In a post on X on Friday, the President described the victories as evidence that UDA is steadily building a strong national political movement.

“Thank you Isiolo South, West Kabras, Muminji, and Evurore for standing firmly with the United Democratic Alliance in yesterday’s by-elections. We remain on track to build a solid national party whose vision spans generations as we move Kenya forward,” Ruto wrote.

He also congratulated the four winners and expressed confidence that they would serve their constituents effectively: Tubi Mohammed (Isiolo South Constituency), Elphas Kainanga Shalakha (West Kabras Ward), Duncan Muratia Nyaga (Evurore Ward), and Peterson Njeru (Muminji Ward).

The by-elections, conducted on Thursday, were marked by relatively low voter turnout but resulted in UDA securing all four seats.

In Isiolo South, Tubi Mohammed won decisively with 7,352 votes, defeating his closest rival Bina Tubi of the Jubilee Party, who received 634 votes, while independent candidate Isaac Abduba trailed with 44 votes. The results, compiled from all 60 polling stations, followed the vacancy left by the death of former MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu on November 12 last year.

Bidu had been elected on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2022 General Election and was a key political figure in the area.

The Isiolo South race drew national attention due to a rare sibling rivalry between Mohammed Tubi and his sister Bina Mohammed, both children of the late MP. Despite their shared political heritage, they contested the seat in a highly watched campaign that dominated local discussions.
