Congo and Western countries have been accusing Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels who captured the town of Uvira in South Kivu earlier this week shortly after the agreement was signed.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of some newly appointed government leaders, President Paul Kagame said he has personally been under great pressure, especially with allegations implicating Rwanda in the ongoing war in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

He said that the agreement between Rwanda, the DRC and the United States was signed in Washington on the 4th of this month, and his country participated voluntarily and with the intention of peace, saying that Rwanda has accepted it and will comply with its demands so that the agreement can lead the two countries to peace.

“Rwanda signed the agreement voluntarily and is ready to comply with what is required to be done so that the agreement, if implemented properly and each side abides by its obligations, can bring the two countries to peace. It is true that it is not easy and often it is difficult, there are those who do not tell the truth or miss what they want in the agreement, “In a contract, you do not get everything you want, but you get what you need and the other person gets what is important to him.”
