A woman is in hiding after allegedly killing her three children by poisoning them in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
Athi River East Sub-county Police Commander Anderson Mbae said the tragedy occurred on Sunday night in Mlolongo Phase Three Estate, near Mlolongo Township, and was reported to police the following day.

“The report came from the caretaker of the rental house where the woman lived. She said she received a text from the suspect asking her to check a ‘wonder’ inside the house, while the suspect had already fled. It was clear something terrible had happened,” Mbae told press.
Police who visited the scene discovered the three children dead inside the house, with foam coming from their mouths. The victims included one-year-old twin girls found on a bed and a four-year-old boy lying in a baby cot.
“It is believed that the children were poisoned using a mixture containing Vim detergent,” Mbae said.
The bodies were taken to the City Mortuary pending autopsy, while the suspect remains at large. Police say she is being actively pursued.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Mlolongo Police Station are handling the investigation.
Mbae warned the public against harming their children, stressing that taking the law into one’s own hands is never acceptable. He urged parents, particularly women facing difficulties, to seek support from the relevant authorities instead of harming or abandoning their children.
Once arrested, the suspect will be charged with murder and presented in court.
