Eyewitnesses said both the motorcycle and the vehicle tried to swerve to avoid a pothole, leading to a head-on collision. The impact was fatal, killing the motorcyclist instantly.
Stephen Macharia, a cousin to the deceased, said the trio was on their way to a football tournament in Siakago when tragedy struck.
“We have lost a young, promising man whose life has been tragically cut short,” Macharia said.
The deceased’s sister, Victoria Nyakio, described the incident as heartbreaking and urged authorities to ensure justice is served.
“He was full of ambition and hope. This loss has left our family in pain,” she said.
In a statement, Muthende expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and said his team was offering support to those affected.
He condemned attempts to politicize the tragedy, terming such behavior “cheap and insensitive,” and called for calm and compassion during the mourning period.
“This is not the time for politics. We must stand with the grieving families,” Muthende said, pledging full cooperation with ongoing investigations.
The body of the deceased was taken to Gakwegori Funeral Home, while the injured are being treated at Embu Level 5 Hospital.
