Nyong’o Urges Immediate Investigation into Fatal Nyakach Road Accident

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has urged the police to promptly investigate the tragic road accident that resulted in the deaths of four people and left 19 others injured.

Nyong’o called for the authorities to determine the cause of the crash and take appropriate action against those responsible for any negligence or errors that may have contributed to the incident.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, involved a matatu transporting students from Ober Boys Boarding School in Homa Bay County.

The vehicle, en route to Kisumu, collided with a sugarcane truck at Kibwon in Nyakach Subcounty.

Three students tragically lost their lives in the crash, and 19 others sustained various injuries. The matatu’s conductor also died in the incident, which took place just a few kilometers from Sondu Township. The students were on their way home for the April holidays when the collision occurred.

In a statement, Governor Nyong’o expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families, teachers, and students of Ober Boys Boarding School.

“On behalf of the people of Kisumu County, I extend my deepest sympathies to the teachers, students, and parents of Ober Boys Boarding School for this immense loss. These young lives, who were only traveling home for the holidays, were taken from us in an avoidable accident,” the Governor said.

He also expressed concern over the preventability of the accident, emphasizing that both drivers could have avoided the collision if they had followed proper safety protocols and professional driving standards.

“My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy, and I wish a speedy recovery to those who are currently hospitalized,” Governor Nyong’o added.

The incident has sparked widespread calls for enhanced road safety and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
