The operation, guided by intelligence reports, was carried out in several estates within Kagio town and surrounding areas after a complaint was lodged at the local police station.

Recovered items include high-value electronics such as a 50-inch LG TV, a washing machine, a power backup system, a CPU, and a monitor. Officers also seized household goods including three glass tables, two mattresses, detergents, perfumes, and food items.

Preliminary findings suggest the goods were looted from County Supermarket and Cash-Cash Club during the protests.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be presented in court. Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other suspects and recover more stolen items.

The National Police Service (NPS) has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding life and property, warning the public against engaging in looting, vandalism, and destruction during protests.

The arrests in Kagio are part of a broader crackdown on individuals involved in property destruction during demonstrations that affected several towns in the Mt. Kenya region.

In a related case, 21 people were arrested in Nyeri in connection with the June 25 protests. On June 27, 20 of them were granted cash bail by a magistrate’s court, while 11 pleaded guilty to theft and possession of stolen property.

The remaining 10 denied the charges and were released on a Sh100,000 bond.

Police say the suspects were found in possession of stolen goods including mattresses and household electronics.
