Three people have died in Lanet, Bahati, Nakuru County, after drinking illicit alcohol on Friday.
James Waweru, the Medical Superintendent at Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital, confirmed that two victims, aged 37 and 41, passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital.
A third person was taken to the morgue on Saturday morning.
The source of the illegal alcohol remains unclear, though one of the deceased had brought the drink and shared it with friends.
“They had a few drinks during the day, but things worsened at night. I was woken up by screams from their relatives. The first two victims were friends, so we suspect they drank together,” said John Nguandaru, a Nyumba Kumi chair. “They reportedly complained of stomach pain, vision loss, and general fatigue.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
