Joho: Coast Region Vows Full Support for Ruto’s Second Term

Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has stated that the Coast region is committed to backing President William Ruto for a second term in office.

Speaking at a rally in Kilifi County, Joho said that residents have already made up their minds ahead of the 2027 general election and the region will support the President for the full two-term constitutional limit.

“Kilifi residents want to assure President William Ruto that he has two terms from the Coast region. The entire Coast has decided it is two terms,” Joho declared.

He described the pledge as a collective political decision by both leaders and residents, highlighting a growing alignment between the region and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Shall we get the President to the top?” he asked rhetorically, eliciting cheers from the audience.

This comes amid heightened political mobilisation nationwide, as leaders position themselves and their regions ahead of the upcoming elections.

A former Mombasa governor, Joho has emerged as a key political figure in the Coast, increasingly shaping the region’s political direction since joining the Cabinet.

President Ruto has intensified development initiatives in the Coast, focusing on the blue economy, port infrastructure, fisheries, and mining sectors—areas that officials say are crucial for job creation and regional growth.

During his visit to Malindi, Kilifi County, Ruto reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing that no community will be left behind.

To boost the blue economy, the government has provided over 100 boats to young people and disbursed Sh983 million to 278 groups in Kilifi.

“We are transforming Kilifi County through programmes and policies that are changing lives. In total, Sh21 billion has been invested in constructing more than 8,000 affordable housing units, 12 modern markets, and hostels for 4,300 college and university students,” Ruto said.

He also laid the foundation for the 1,080-unit Mtwapa Mini-City Affordable Housing Project in Kilifi County, which has already generated over 1,000 jobs.

Ruto highlighted that the county’s Affordable Housing Programme is creating tens of thousands of local jobs, while nationally, the initiative has provided employment for more than 500,000 young people
