Tanui, who brings more than 24 years of experience in the financial sector, succeeds Elizabeth Nkukuu, the Fund’s founding CEO. He has previously held senior roles at Ecobank, Consolidated Bank of Kenya, and the Industrial and Commercial Development Bank, with expertise spanning risk management, MSME and business lending, mortgages, and international trade finance.

In his acceptance, Tanui pledged to build on the Fund’s foundation by enhancing loan recovery systems, strengthening financial literacy, and expanding ecosystem lending to increase outreach and impact.

“The Hustler Fund has already proven to be catalytic in supporting livelihoods and driving economic growth. My focus will be on scaling up impact and ensuring sustainability,” he said.

Outgoing CEO Nkukuu expressed pride in having steered the Fund from inception.

“It has been a privilege to serve Kenyans by establishing and launching the Hustler Fund. I am proud of what we achieved and wish Mr. Tanui success in taking the Fund to the next level,” she said.

Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya lauded the Fund’s role in advancing financial access, noting that it has already provided affordable credit to over 26 million Kenyans. He urged the new leadership to prioritise timely repayments and expand financial literacy.
