Police and emergency crews were dispatched to Nairobi’s Southern Bypass after a fuel tanker burst into flames following a traffic accident.
The busy highway was temporarily shut down as officers worked to control the fire, which sent thick smoke into the air and posed a risk to nearby buildings. The incident occurred beneath a bridge along the bypass.

Eyewitnesses reported that some motorists and bodaboda riders rushed to the scene after fuel spilled from the tanker, attempting to collect it before the fire broke out.
Nairobi Police Commander George Seda said additional emergency teams had been deployed to handle the situation.
He noted that details surrounding the accident were still limited and that more information would be available once the fire was fully brought under control, amid concerns it could spread to surrounding areas.
