From Lent to Ramadan: Uhuru Sends Warm Wishes Nationwide

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta observed Ash Wednesday by joining Catholic worshippers at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Nyali, Mombasa.

Kenyatta attended the solemn service that marks the beginning of Lent, honoring the Christian traditions of repentance and spiritual renewal.

According to a statement from his office on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, “Former President Uhuru Kenyatta this morning joined Catholic faithful at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Nyali, Mombasa, to mark Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent.”

A Season of Prayer and Reflection

The statement highlighted that Lent is a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and reflection leading up to Easter.

“Kenyatta participated in the solemn service alongside congregants, observing the tradition of repentance and spiritual renewal,” it noted.

In his message, the former president wished Christians a meaningful Lenten season filled with prayer, compassion, and introspection.

“He extended warm wishes to those beginning their Lenten journey, hoping the period would inspire reflection, prayer, and acts of kindness,” the statement added.

Ramadan Greetings to Muslim Communities

Kenyatta also conveyed his greetings to Muslims as they begin the holy month of Ramadan, a key pillar of worship in Islam. His message emphasized shared values of faith, discipline, and charity across religions, reflecting Kenya’s culture of religious harmony.

“President (Rtd) Kenyatta wished Muslim brothers and sisters in Kenya and around the world a blessed Ramadan, hoping the sacred month would strengthen faith, foster compassion, and promote unity among communities,” the statement said.

For Muslims, Ramadan involves daily fasting from dawn to sunset, coupled with increased prayer, reflection, and charitable acts, with families and friends gathering to break their fast and celebrate together.
