Five Dead, 45 Hospitalized in Narok Cholera Outbreak

Narok County is on high alert after a cholera outbreak in Trans Mara claimed five lives and left at least 45 others hospitalized.

Health authorities have moved swiftly to contain the spread by closing eateries, banning the sale of cooked food in open markets, and dispatching a rapid response team to the affected wards — Shankoe, Lolgorian, Alopiikidongoi, and Kilgoris Central.

Water samples from the area have been sent to Kisumu for testing, while doctors at Trans Mara West Hospital continue to treat dozens of new patients suffering from severe dehydration and diarrhea.

Narok County Director of Health, Lucy Kashu, said medical teams are working tirelessly to prevent further deaths.

The county has also suspended public gatherings involving food and directed that burials in affected areas be carried out within 24 hours.

Residents have been urged to maintain proper hygiene, boil or treat drinking water, and report any suspected cholera cases immediately.
