DIG Lagat Lands in Tseikuru After Deadly Attacks Shake Kitui

Tseikuru in Kitui County remained under tight security on Sunday as senior police leadership moved in to assess the situation following recent deadly retaliatory clashes between local communities.

The Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, visited Kwa Kamari on April 26, 2026, to conduct a comprehensive security review in the wake of the violence that has left residents shaken.

Upon arrival at Kwa Kamari Police Station, Lagat was received by Tseikuru Sub-County Police Commander Joakim Mecha, who briefed him on the unfolding security situation and events recorded over the past 24 hours.

The DIG was accompanied by General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni as he engaged directly with residents in a bid to ease tensions and restore calm in the area.

During the visit, Lagat delivered a message of condolence from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to families who lost loved ones in the attacks. He strongly condemned the killings, describing them as brutal and unacceptable, and assured residents that the government would not allow such acts of lawlessness to go unpunished.

He confirmed that investigations are already underway, with security agencies intensifying efforts to track down those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

At the same time, Lagat urged residents to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory violence, warning against taking the law into their own hands. He encouraged the community to cooperate with law enforcement by sharing any useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.

With schools set to reopen in the coming days, the DIG reassured parents of enhanced security measures, urging them to allow their children to resume learning without fear.

The National Police Service has since heightened surveillance and patrols in Tseikuru and surrounding areas as part of efforts to stabilize the region and promote peaceful coexistence.

Also present during the security assessment was Kyuso Sub-County Police Commander Samson Thuranira, alongside other security officials.
