A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer is facing serious allegations after reportedly shooting a Boda Boda rider in Nakuru’s Molo Sub County late Wednesday night.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice from the victim’s family.
The victim, identified as Keitanyi, is currently receiving treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital for injuries sustained during the alleged shooting. According to Keitanyi’s account, he had dropped off a passenger, who turned out to be the officer’s wife, at her residence in Ole Polos when he was confronted.
“I picked up a passenger who asked me to take her home in Ole Polos. When we arrived, I dropped her off at the second gate. That’s when I saw an older man waiting there,” Keitanyi recounted from his hospital bed. “The man then started questioning me about where I had come from with his wife. He harassed me and demanded that I push the motorbike to his place. I found myself bleeding badly and struggled to get away.”
Keitanyi alleges that the DCI officer shot him in the head and proceeded to inflict further injuries.
The victim’s family is now demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the alleged assault. “We want justice because even now, the medical bills we are being asked for amount to more than 800,000 Kenya shillings,” stated Keitanyi’s father, Simon Kosgei, expressing deep concern over the escalating medical expenses.
Police reports confirm that the DCI officer has been taken into custody. His firearm, a pistol containing 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Keitanyi has also recorded a statement with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), providing his account of the incident. The IPOA is expected to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
This incident has raised serious questions about the conduct of law enforcement officers and has amplified calls for accountability and transparency within the DCI. The community is closely monitoring the developments, seeking assurance that justice will be served.
