Bondo Blogger Arrested over Alleged Defamation of MCA

A blogger from Bondo has been arrested over allegations of defaming Francis Otiato, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Yimbo East Ward.

The blogger, Boniface Ohindo, popularly known as Super B, was arrested at his home by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the MCA filed a complaint accusing him of spreading false information on social media about local development projects.

Confirming the arrest, Bondo DCIO Reuben Onchoka said Ohindo will be arraigned on Monday to face charges of cyber harassment and misuse of digital communication platforms.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions among Yimbo East residents. A group led by Erick Oyaro visited the blogger at Bondo Police Station, urging the MCA to pursue an out-of-court resolution, noting that Ohindo had previously served as Otiato’s personal assistant.

Another resident, Margaret Akinyi, criticized the MCA’s decision, arguing that it could silence citizens who question local development matters. She called on Otiato to withdraw the case to maintain good relations between leaders and the public.

In his response, MCA Otiato said he had repeatedly asked Ohindo to stop publishing defamatory content but the blogger ignored the warnings, leaving him with no option but to seek legal redress.

He, however, hinted at the possibility of dropping the case if Ohindo apologizes publicly and shows remorse, warning that failure to do so could result in both criminal prosecution and a civil suit for damages.
