Police in Nyamira County are probing the murder of an 11-year-old girl whose decomposed body was discovered in a thicket in the Kiambere area, Mariba.
The girl had been missing for a week before her remains were found on Monday evening in a swampy spot about a kilometre from her family home. Officers suspect she was killed and dumped there.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear. Her disappearance had been reported on August 18. The body was moved to the mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made, but detectives said efforts were underway to track down those responsible.
