63 individuals residing in Soweto, Embakasi East, have been displaced following a nocturnal fire that razed their residences.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, took to X to express sorrow over the loss, indicating that the fire engulfed both the residents’ homes and their belongings.

“Another somber day in Soweto ward, Embakasi East, as 63 residents find themselves homeless following a fire that destroyed their houses and belongings last night. Let’s keep Embakasi East in our prayers,” stated the MP on X.
While Babu Owino shared images of the incident, no clarification was provided regarding the fire’s cause.

This incident follows closely after a fire in the Mradi locality of Embakasi, which tragically claimed the lives of at least six individuals.
Reports suggest that the fire stemmed from an explosion of a gas tanker linked to a gas refilling facility operating in the vicinity.
In response to the fire reports, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has mandated the closure of gas enterprises situated within residential zones.
Over the weekend, President William Ruto issued directives to dismiss government employees allegedly involved in granting licenses to the gas plant responsible for the explosion.
He attributed the incident to the dishonesty, corruption, and avarice of these government officials involved in licensing the operator.
