President William Ruto extended warm wishes to the Republic of China as they commemorated the Chinese New Year 2024.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the President highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Kenya and China, emphasizing the deep bonds of friendship and mutual trust that have been cultivated over the years.
“On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Kenya, as well as my own, I extend heartfelt wishes to Your Excellency and, through you, to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China, for a joyous Chinese New Year 2024,” he conveyed.
President Ruto underscored the significant milestone of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations celebrated by Kenya and China on December 14, 2023, illustrating the enduring and robust partnership between the two nations.
As China welcomed the Year of the Dragon, symbolizing auspicious qualities like good health, luck, power, and wisdom, President Ruto expressed aspirations for the continued progress and prosperity of both countries within the framework of the Kenya-China strategic partnership.
Furthermore, the President assured the Chinese government of Kenya’s steadfast support for the Chinese community in Kenya, acknowledging their vital role in advancing the transformative collaboration between the two nations.

The Chinese New Year, falling on February 10th, is a significant festival marking the beginning of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is steeped in cultural traditions, myths, and customs, serving as a time to pay homage to deities and ancestors.
The Lunar New Year is associated with a cycle of 12 lunar years, each named after an animal such as the dragon, horse, rabbit, or snake, among others.
