Ruto Breaks Silence After Death of Zimbabwean Tycoon Wicknell Chivayo

President William Ruto has expressed his condolences following the death of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and other passengers.

Ruto described Chivayo as a close friend and sent his sympathies to the families of everyone who lost their lives in the accident.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend, Wicknell Chivayo, together with his wife, Lucy Muteke, and the other lives lost in the helicopter crash in Zimbabwe,” Ruto said.

He described the deaths as a devastating loss to the victims’ families, friends and those who knew them.

Ruto said he would remember Chivayo for his friendship, vibrant personality and strong belief in Africa’s potential.

“Wicknell was a dear friend whose warmth touched many people. I will remember him for his friendship, his energy and his deep conviction in the possibilities of our continent,” he said.

The President extended his condolences to the bereaved families, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe.

“May God grant Wicknell, Lucy and all those who perished eternal rest,” Ruto said.

Zimbabwean authorities confirmed that six people were aboard the helicopter when it crashed at approximately 5pm.

Government spokesman Nick Mangwana said those on board included a prominent businessman, three other passengers and two pilots.

He said preliminary information indicated that there were no survivors, while extending condolences and prayers to the victims’ families and friends.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesman Paul Nyathi also confirmed the incident and said more information would be provided as investigations into the crash continued.

Chivayo, 42, was a well-known Zimbabwean businessman who attracted public attention for his lavish lifestyle and maintained close links with President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF).
