In a statement released by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the Executive Office of the President said the appointments are meant to fill vacancies that recently arose in constitutional commissions and statutory bodies.

If approved by Parliament, Sossion and Lentoijoni will become members of the nine-member TSC, the independent commission responsible for registering teachers, recruiting and employing educators in public schools, deploying teachers and handling disciplinary matters within the teaching profession.

Sossion is well known in Kenya’s education sector, having previously served as KNUT Secretary General before later becoming a nominated Member of Parliament.

Antonina Lentoijoni has also been nominated to join the commission as a new member.

In the same announcement, President Ruto nominated Flora Mutua to serve as a commissioner at the Public Service Commission (PSC), the body tasked with overseeing appointments, promotions and management of the public service.

The nominations are part of the government’s efforts to fill vacant positions in independent constitutional commissions and ensure their continued operations.

The nominees will now undergo parliamentary vetting before the National Assembly considers and votes on their appointments.
